Word Counter

Paste any text to get four numbers at once: word count, total characters, characters excluding spaces, and line count. Everything is calculated in your browser, so the text you paste never leaves your device.

The two character counts exist because platforms disagree about spaces. Some include them in a limit and some do not, so a caption that fits one place may be over the limit somewhere else. Having both numbers side by side saves you from guessing which one applies.

Your result will appear here.

How to Use the Word Counter

  1. Paste or type your text into the box.
  2. Select Generate to calculate the counts.
  3. Read the four figures in the result area, and use Copy Result if you need to save or share them.

Word Counter FAQ

Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?

No. Counting happens entirely in your browser and the text is not transmitted or saved.

How is a word defined here?

Text is split on whitespace, so each run of non-space characters counts as one word. That matches how most word limits are applied.

Does it work for languages other than English?

It works well for languages that separate words with spaces. Languages written without spaces between words will count differently, though character counts remain accurate.

Is there a length limit?

There is no fixed limit. Extremely long text may take a moment on a slower device, since the work happens locally.
