Image Compressor

Pick an image, choose a quality level and get a smaller file back. The compression runs on your own device using your browser's canvas, so the image is never uploaded to a server — useful when the photo is not something you want to hand to a third party.

Compression trades detail for file size. A quality of 0.7 is a sensible starting point and usually cuts the file substantially with little visible change on a photo. Below about 0.5, JPEG artefacts start to show, particularly in flat areas like skies and around text.

How to Use the Image Compressor

  1. Select an image file from your device.
  2. Set a quality value between 0.1 and 1 — lower means a smaller file and more visible compression.
  3. Select Generate to compress the image.
  4. Check the new file size shown in the result, then use the download link to save it.

Tips

Image Compressor FAQ

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Compression happens locally in your browser using your device's own processing, and the file is not transmitted.

What formats can I use?

Any image format your browser can open, including JPEG, PNG and WebP. The compressed result is always saved as a JPEG.

Will the image lose quality?

Yes, by design — that is the trade for a smaller file. Higher quality values keep more detail; lower values shrink the file further.

Why did my transparent background turn solid?

JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled when the file is written.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit, but very large images take longer and depend on your device's available memory.
